Microblading, for the perfect brows!

Tool

Microblading is a relatively new, manual method that originated in East Asia. It is considered to be a form of cosmetic tattooing as opposed to the term often used by many stating that it is semi- permanent. Microblading is performed with a grouping or configuration of needles affixed to a handle to manually create lines that resemble your natural eyebrow hairs. It is done using a handtool which then deposits pigments into the dermal layer of the skin, therefore it is considered to be permanent. In doing this it gives the client a much more crisp and defined hairstroke than the conventional machine does, leaving the client with a naturally enhanced eyebrow that does not look “fake” or drawn on. Making this the finest form of cosmetic tattooing.

Microblading

Tool

Microblading (or eyebrow embroidery) is a relatively new, manual method. It is considered to be a form of cosmetic tattooing as opposed to the term often used by many stating that it is semi- permanent, it does however have the ability to fade away faster than the conventional solid eyebrow, because there is less pigment implanted into the dermal layer of the skin. Microblading is performed with a grouping or configuration of needles affixed to a handle to manually create lines that resemble eyebrow hairs, It is done using a handtool which then deposits pigments into the dermal layer of the skin, therefore it is considered to be permanent. In doing this it gives the client a much more crisp and defined hairstroke than the conventional machine does, leaving the client with a naturally enhanced eyebrow that does not look “fake” or drawn on.

With this technique it makes it difficult to differentiate between your own eyebrow and the cosmetic tattoo. Making this the most natural way to improve on what you already have

IMAGINE waking up to perfectly shaped and filled in brows every morning... to stop having to worry about drawing in your eyebrows and whether they are the same on each side?

Over plucked, tweezed or waxed eyebrows? A thing of the past! Pencilled in eyebrows that look like a throwback to the 1900’s?

Here at Browginering I engineer each eyebrow to enhance your features according to your individual facial proportions and desired overall shape. Because I believe that if your eyes are the window to your soul, then surely your eyebrows are the frame

Important to know:

During your appointment, your eyebrows will be shaped and drawn in, to your approval. I do not use a stencil as each eyebrow is custom designed according to your facial proportions and your desired overall shape. Once you are happy with the shape, we will begin the procedure - which usually takes an average of an hour and a half.

A touch up is always recommended 8-12 weeks after your initial procedure to allow the area to fully heal and for the colour to settle in completely. Expect your end result after a full healing cycle of 28days. The follow-up visit allows for minor touch-ups, if necessary. After care instructions will be given to each client to ensure the best healed results possible and must be followed diligently.

Please note: that within the next 10days your eyebrows will appear very bold and much darker than the desired result, the fullness of your eyebrows will also appear much thicker than the desired and healed result. This is normal and part of the healing process. The area must be kept as clean as possible to avoid infections or complications. Makeup cannot be applied onto your treated area until they are fully healed. Exposure to water, such as showering, swimming, sweating must be avoided at all costs for the first 7-10 days. Failure to follow after care instructions will result in poor healed results.

Prior to your appointment:

To ensure best results, make sure your health is in good condition 72 hours before and after your microstroking appointment: avoid alcohol and aspirin/ibuprofen. One week before: stop taking the following supplements (Vitamin E, B6, Omega 3, Gingko Biloba, St. John's Wort) as they contribute to thinning the blood and may affect anaesthetic efficacy. You may resume taking your vitamins 72 hours after.

Important Notice: No prescribed medication should be discontinued without permission of your doctor. If unsure please feel free to contact me before your appointment date.

On the day of your appointment: avoid caffeine alcohol and exercise. Wash your hair in the morning as you will need to avoid the shower for several days to keep your eyebrow dry. Baths are recommended.

Pigments used during microblading are implanted into the dermal layer of the skin, making this one of the finest forms of cosmetic tattooing. Results do vary on clients health, aftercare and skintype. Because of the specialized technique used healed results are often beautifully fine, thin, and crisp hair lines that mimic your individual eyebrow hairs however results may not last as long as traditional methods.

A colour boost is required usually between 18-24 months. A touch-up may be required at 12 months or sooner for oily-skinned clients, those who tan often, or often expose brow area to certain chemicals (facial peels, chlorine, anti-aging products, etc.). Pigment retention varies depending on skin type, age, aftercare, immune system, medications, certain chemicals, and the type of pigment used. Older skin generally retains pigment far better as its moisture content and cell rejuvenation has deteriorated.

I use only the best quality, EU, FDA approved USP grade pigments that heal true to colour. All materials used during each and every appointment (including pre-sterilized blades) are 100% disposed of. I strictly adhere to both OSHA guidelines for proper infection control practices.

All permanent make up procedures are multi-appointment procedures. You are required to come back for follow up treatment within 8– 12 weeks before it can be determined that your procedure is complete. This is to ensure perfection and longevity of the area treated. Permanent make-up is not a science, it’s an art and an adjustment of colour or shape may be required.

When your procedure is completed the colour will be intense and very dark. It will take 7-10 days for this colour to settle and heal in the skin allowing for a soft natural colour to emerge.

Lip application will be extremely dark and then flake or scab to almost invisible. Allow at least 21 to 28 days to determine the amount of colour retained. Due to the nature of the mucous membrane the colour will always have a subtle, very natural end result. Very deep, dark colours are almost impossible to achieve.

The treated area will become red and inflamed, Any form of hair removal or tinting should be done 24 hours prior to treatment or at least 2 weeks after the procedure.

For eyeliners Contact lenses may be worn during procedure but if you are prone to irritability or dry eye syndrome wear your glasses instead as swelling will occur directly after procedure.

If you have a history of cold sores or fever blisters, it is recommended to visit your GP prior to any lip procedures to prescribe oral medication. Failure to do so will result in a herpes simplex break out and can destroy or interfere with your permanent make up end result.

Before and after photos will be taken for our records only and will not be published without a clients written consent.

Sensitivity of the application is greatly increased if a client is pre-menstrual.

Permanent Makeup Aftercare

General

During all permanent cosmetic procedures colour will be very intense, dark and vibrant until healing process is complete. It is normal for areas to loose colour and fade with time. Perfection will be achieved on follow up procedure.

OUTER HEALING completes in about 3-6 days for eyes, 7-10 days for lips and brows. INNER HEALING completes in 1-2 months.

Final healed result is at about 2 months. If a follow up is needed, it is not done any sooner than 2 months after the first procedure. Performing a touch up too early could cause scarring. Some colours (especially eyebrow colours) take longer to settle in and see final result.

Eyebrows

NO water, cleansers, creams, makeup or any other products on treated area for 10 days.

For the first day only, 4-5 hours after the procedure, clean the area with sterile water and a cotton pad, gauze or q-tip and allow to air dry.

Eyebrow area must be kept completely dry for the first 24 hours after which you would start applying your ointment twice daily.

For the next three days blot the area lightly if fluid occurs.

DO NOT rub, pick or scratch the treated area. Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate off. Picking can cause scarring. Do not peel or pick at crust, this could cause pigment loss, scarring, and delayed healing.

Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 3-4 weeks after procedure.

Avoid heavy sweating for the first 10 days.

Do not apply topical cosmetics over area while healing.

Avoid sleeping on your directly on treated area for the first 10 days.

NO facials, Botox, chemical treatments and microdermabrasion for 4 weeks.

Apply ointment 1-2 times per day, do not over-apply as area needs to be allowed to breathe.

Please Note: Eyebrows will appear darker and bolder due to natural scabbing and healing for the first 10 days. This is very common for all permanent cosmetic procedures.

Eyeliner

Do not wear contact lenses during the procedure or for 24 hours after initial procedure.

Have sunglasses available. Eyes may be light sensitive or even dilated immediately after.

The sunglasses are also handy for hiding puffy eyes.

Eyes will be swollen for a few days drinking celestamine will considerably reduce swelling.

Eyes may feel dry or irritated. Lubricating refresher drops may be used.

Do not use mascara until outer healing is complete (3-5 days)

Apply ointment 1-2 times per day with Q-tip. avoid touching area with fingers.

Allow area to naturally exfoliate. Within 3-5 days line will be finer and lighter.

If any irritation persists after three days consult medical attention

Lips

NO water, cleansers, creams, makeup or any other products on treated area for 10 days.

Avoid direct contact with toothpaste and mouthwash as it contains bleaching agents

Lips will be swollen for few days. Antiinflammatories may be taken to reduce this.

Eat carefully and drink through straw for first 24hours

Do not apply topical cosmetics over area while healing.

For the next three days blot the area lightly if fluid occurs

Continue anti-viral treatment for 7days if you are prone to fever blisters (herpes simplex).

During healing process, 5-7days apply ointment with Q-tip when dry.

When scabbing occurs allow to peel off naturally, do not pick or pull as it will influence colour retention.

Colour will fade up to 60% depending on skin type, within 2weeks and final results will only be visible after 2 months.

FAQ's

What is microblading/microstoking?

Microblading is used on eyebrows to create natural crisp hair strokes that mimic the growth of your own eyebrow hairs. Using a very fine configuration of needles pigments are implanted into the dermal layer of the skin which allows for an extremely natural healed result leaving crisp fine hairs. It is considered to be a form of cosmetic tattooing.

How long does microblading last?

Because microblading allows for less pigment to be implanted, it does have the ability to fade away completely over time. The client’s health, aftercare and skin type does play a role in the longevity of the cosmetic tattoo. Generally within 1-3years a colour boost is recommended.

What is the difference between microblading and shaded brows?

Shaded/solid brows are considered to be is far more saturated than micro bladed brows and can lasts up to 5-10 years. Shaded brows has a more solid bold look and can be done for clients who desires a more dramatic look or who are not suited for hair strokes. Whereas micro stroking gives a more soft and natural look. They are both considered to be permanent

How long does the procedure take?

The initial procedure can take up to an hour and a half with more time spent on consulting about colour, shape and desired overall look. 20 minutes of this time will be spent on anaesthetic to numb the area before proceeding. To make it as comfortable as possible

How do you choose a shape for my face?

During our consultation I study the symmetry and proportions of your face. I then decide and draw a shape according to your exact needs and facial structure. I measure the shape that has been drawn in to ensure balance and harmony that compliments all your facial features. After you have agreed upon the shape only then we will the procedure will start

Will my own hairs be shaved/waxed off?

This is a myth and no such thing will be done. I will however remove any hairs that are out of place to neaten the area. The whole idea is to leave your eyebrows as natural as possible.

Do I need a touch up?

Yes, your first touch up will need to be done 8-12 weeks after your initial procedure for perfection and durability. Generally after that a colour boost will need to be done every 1-3 years depending on your own skins retention of pigment.

Is there any downtime?

Absolutely not! You will still be able to go to work and be seen in public there is however aftercare instructions that will need to be followed in order for you to get the best healed result possible. A darker dramatic brow will have to be expected during the healing process which takes up to 7-10days.

How will I look directly after the procedure?

The area treated will be slightly red and inflamed which will subside within hours. It will also appear much bolder and darker for the first 7-10days until the area has fully healed. After healed results the brow will be 20-40% lighter

Is it painful?

Minor discomfort can be expected with every procedure but a very high quality anaesthetic is used in every procedure to help ease discomfort. The procedure itself is also very quick and allows for little to no pain during the procedure depending on clients own pain threshold. Generally the first pass will be felt but after that more anaesthetic is applied to make the procedure as comfortable as possible.

Is it safe?

As I work according to strict OSHA guidelines for proper infection control every procedure is 100% safe. I use a new unopened disposable sterilized needle for each client and all implements and tools are sterilized before and after each procedure.

How permanent is it?

The microblading technique is still a form of cosmetic tattooing which means it does reach the dermal layer of your skin, it is however possible for it to fade away completely over time depending on skin type and overall health. As there is far less pigment implanted into the skin as the conventional solid eyebrow technique. Touch ups/colour boosts are recommended for the longevity of the eyebrow. Eyeliners and lips are considered permanent and can last up to 5-10years before touch up is needed.

How do you choose a colour for me?

I work according to your skins undertone and overtone to match the colour exactly. I also look at your eyebrow hairs natural colour and work accordingly.

Can I have my old permanent makeup that was done somewhere else corrected?

It can be corrected but in most cases will need more than one touch up. Tattoo removal is highly recommended for best results. This will be charged at an extra cost according to how much work will be needed. A High Definition picture must be sent to advice on whether the eyebrow can be corrected or must be removed. This will avoid any disappointment.

Can pregnant/lactating women have this procedure done?

I always recommend that a doctor’s note must be brought with on the day of procedure to ensure that all safety precautions have been taken

What if I don’t like it?

I will never proceed without showing the client the shape and colour chosen making the client as much involved as I am. I do however recommend that you must understand that for the first 7-10days the treated area will be much darker and much more bold than the healed result, this is called the healing phase of all permanent makeup and cannot be avoided. As soon as it is healed it will appear much lighter and far more natural. If at all you do not like it after that it can fade away completely over time or removal can be considered.

How long does it take to heal?

For eyebrows it generally takes between 7-10days to heal and scab, sometimes depending on overall health 14days. In this time aftercare instructions will need to be followed religiously. Eyeliner takes between 3-5days and lips between 4- 6days. All cosmetic procedures take between 30-60days for true colour to show which means even after the scabs have come off your skin is still going through a healing process.

Will I be able to swim, exercise or shower?

For the first 10-14 days these activities need to be avoided at all costs. Any direct contact with water will affect the healed result and pigment will be lost. Aftercare is far more important to me to ensure the best result possible. If you are planning on going on a vacation to the beach, the procedure must be done at least 4- 6weeks before

Can I have this procedure done if I am diabetic?

Normally it is not recommended for diabetic patients to have this procedure done and approval from your doctor will be needed

Can I have this procedure done if I have cancer or chemotherapy?

Approval from your doctor will be needed but generally if chemotherapy has been completed you may have this procedure done

Can I donate blood after having this procedure done?

According to the strict guidelines of the national SANBS you will have to wait a period of 4 months

Who can have this procedure done?

Anyone can have this procedure done, there is no age restriction!

Can I have this done if I am on antibiotics?

No, antibiotics will affect the procedure as it is formulated to attack any foreign substance in your body. You will have to have been off of it for 3 months

Can I have this done if I recently had an operation and have been under anaesthesia?

No, any unhealthy immune system may affect the procedure. Allow for body to heal and wait at least 3months

Can I have this done if I am on blood thinning medication?

It is not recommended as this will make the procedure extremely difficult to complete.
